Enfield Older People Community Mental Health Team
-
We are the Enfield Older People Community Mental Health Team (Enfield OPCMHT), a needs-led service for people in the borough of Enfield who have a mental health disorder. We support individuals whose mental health is impacted by physical illness or frailty, which may contribute to or complicate the management of their condition. While our service primarily supports older adults, we also provide care for people under 65 whose needs align with our specialist support. We are a secondary care service that delivers care directly to people where they live and signposts to other local services as required.

Who is this service for?
The service is for anyone experiencing a mental health issue. We work with people who have illnesses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder (manic depression), dementia, anxiety and depression. We provide help and support to people with severe or enduring mental health problems along with their carers.
Less severe mental health issues are treated by GPs who may refer you to an Enhanced Primary Care Mental Health Service such as Increasing Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT).
What to expect
All referrals received from GP’s are screened by the team. The person referred may be offered an outpatient appointment, be seen at home on a domiciliary visit or be referred to the Enfield Memory Service for assessment.
In all cases, you will be assessed by a team doctor and/or mental health professional, who will discuss your needs with you and agree a way forward. This may be to arrange a service from the team, direct you to an alternative source of help or provide expert advice.
We work in partnership with Enfield Memory Service and the Hawthorn Recovery Unit based at Chase Farm Hospital, Enfield Adult Social Care services and Enfield Community Services.
Care Co-ordination: You will be allocated a care co-ordinator. This person is the member of the team who will be oversee your care plan.
The team works together to provide a range of treatment and support based around your needs. This may include providing information on treatment options, education on conditions and ways of managing these, an assessment of how you function in your home environment, and helping you access other services to get the support you need. You might need just time limited support or longer term input dependent on your circumstance.
