Survivors Service – run by Islington Mind  

If you have been affected by abuse within Islington’s children’s homes up until the 1990s, you may be able to get support. The support has been designed with survivors, based on what people say they need.

To contact the service:

  •  call the helpline on 0203 301 9850 and choose option 1
  • opening hours: Monday-Friday, 9:30am-5pm. Outside of these times you can leave a voicemail.  

When you call:

  •  say that you want  to refer yourself to the 'Survivors Service'
  • the helpline team will take your details  
  • a support worker will contact you. You may need to wait up to one week to be contacted about your first appointment.

Crisis Single Point of Access (C-SPA)- 0800 917 3333

  • Our 24/7 crisis telephone service is the first point of contact for people who are in mental health crisis.  This enables access to get help or advice in a crisis from our trained mental health visitors and clinicians, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
  • You can also contact  NHS 111, (you will be asked you to press  9 to continue then asked for the nearest station / location, then pressoption 2.

Mental Health Crisis Assessment Service (MHCAS)

  • Highgate West Mental Health Centre, Dartmouth Park Hill, London, N19 5NX
  • You can attend in person, 24 hours a day, mental health crisis assessment service.

Islington Recovery Café

  • The Islington Recovery Café provides practical and emotional support for those experiencing a mental health crisis.  The service is open 365 days a year.

  • Mon – Friday 6pm – 10pm / Weekends 2pm – 6pm

We have compiled a range of resources on coping with anxiety and PTSD symptoms, as well as an  information leaflet [pdf] 655KB on further support offered by independent organisations for survivors and their carers. Finally, the Traumatic Stress Clinic YouTube channel features further helpful video resources on coping with anxiety and PTSD.

Survivors may also at times struggle with drug and alcohol difficulties. This can interfere with feeling able to access appointments regularly or benefit fully from therapy. If you feel you need support with your substance use, please see below:
