The service provides short term, evidence based psychological therapies for individuals who are aged 16 and above, and who are registered with a Barnet GP. We operate a ’stepped care model’, which means that treatments that are the least intrusive are matched to level of intensity of the presenting problems. We offer brief focussed counselling and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). We also offer a range of workshops and courses on different topics such as manging stress and low mood. Our appointments are delivered over the telephone, in person, via videolink and a ‘hybrid’, or a combination, based on clinical need and the type of treatment that is offered.
We treat individuals presenting with low mood and anxiety disorders such as panic attacks generalised anxiety, phobias, health anxiety, posttraumatic stress disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, and social anxiety. We also offer help to individuals who have anxiety and low mood in the context of dealing with long term physical health conditions such as pain, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and many others.
Clients can be referred via their GP or another health/care professional.
Clients can also self refer, and do not need GP input for this. We encourage clients to self refer via our website: Barnet - Let's Talk IAPT (lets-talk-iapt.nhs.uk)
In case of any difficulties, clients can contact us via phone or email.
Individuals who present with low mood and anxiety disorders, where there is a focus for psychological therapy and where there is low risk and a stable social environment (this is important so that the focus can remain on treatment as opposed to other environmental stressors that can take the focus away from therapy).
Following a referral or self referral being made, clients will be contacted to book into an initial screening assessment, which will be via the telephone. This is to identify the main difficulties that the client is experiencing, level of risk and focus of treatment. This is important as it will enable the service to determine if they are best placed to offer help, in which case clients are placed on treatment waiting lists. Where the service is not able to help, suitable alternatives will be discussed with the client and onward referrals made.
