Support for the Armed Forces community

Following the formation of North London NHS Foundation Trust in November 2024, our Trust have been working to renew all our commitments to the Armed Forces Community, standardise best practice and continue to improve our offer to patients and staff.

For more information on our services for members of the Armed Forces Community, please see the Op Courage site.

Veteran Aware

At the beginning of May 2025, the Trust was officially recognised as Veteran Aware by the Veteran Covenant Health Care Alliance (VCHA). Being a Veteran Aware organisation brings great benefit both for our patients and workforce who are members of the UK

Armed Forces Covenant

On the 16 September North London NHS Foundation Trust signed the Armed Forces Covenant.

Read the Armed Forces Convenant.

Please follow the above link to see the pledge our Trust has made to improve care and standards, for example:

  • Promoting awareness of our Op Courage service amongst the wider Trust and veterans mental health generally through our e-learning package.
  • Improving where possible the experience of members of the armed forces community accessing our services.
  • Encouraging staff to join the NLFT Veteran’s Network to support staff in the armed forces community to be more involved in service development.

Defence Employers Recognition Scheme

Prior to the formation of NLFT, Barnet, Enfield and Haringey NHS Trust and Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust received bronze and gold awards respectively under the defence employer recognition scheme (DERS). The Trust will be reassessed for this scheme in late 2025, where through our standardisation of good practice through our Trust merger, we hope to retain the gold award.

 This is though for example:

  • Our Employing Staff in the Armed Forces Policy, which outlines for example allowances for special leave for Reservists and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers.
  • Outreach sessions with local cadet groups on NHS careers.
  • Inclusion of Veterans stalls in our recruitment events.

We would love to hear from you!
