Accessibility statement for the North London NHS Foundation Trust website

This accessibility statement applies to the North London NHS Foundation Trust website.

This website is run by the North London NHS Foundation Trust. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to the website using a screen reader
  • We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

The North London NHS Foundation Trust is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to non-compliances listed below.

Non accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Visibility of content

  • Some buttons are not larger than 44×44 pixels (WCAG 2.5.5).
  • In soft contrast, our logo doesn't have enough contrast with the background (WCAG 1.4.3).
  • At all zoom levels, the main menu can't be easily closed with keyboard only (WCAG 1.4.13).
  • At high zoom levels, sometimes breadcrumbs force the page to scroll in two dimensions (WCAG 1.4.10).
  • The keyboard focus is not visible when tabbing between 'Change language' and 'Contact us'
  • The keyboard focus is not visible on the radio button labels under 'Enter keywords. This is an issue tabbing between 'All' and the 'Our Services' link in the footer
  • Some button elements on pages do not have sufficient colour contrast.

The below issues will be fixed when we find them, either through accessibility audits or regular content review:

  • Some pages and documents have a reading age higher than 16 (WCAG 3.1.5). We regularly review our written information to ensure everyone can understand it, but sometimes we have to publish information of a legal or clinical nature. Where possible, we link to additional information that is easier to read.
  • Some of our PDFs do not have accessible titles: we know PDFs and closed file formats are difficult to use for people with accessibility needs, so wherever possible we use open standards (such as CSV) and HTML pages instead. Where we find documents that are not accessible, we will either fix them, convert them to HTML pages, or remove them.
  • Some of our embedded videos may not have names that are readable by screen readers (WCAG 4.1.2).
  • Some images on the news page dont have alternative text, these are being resolved by the team currently.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and non-HTML documents

Some of our PDFs and Word documents are essential to providing our services. For example, we have PDFs with information on how users can access our services, and forms published as Word documents.

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

Recent audits have identified a significant number of PDFs that do not meet accessibility guidelines.

As part of our work to improve the accessibility of this website, we are reviewing our policy on PDFs and other methods of delivering information with a view to making them as accessible as possible.

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was prepared on Monday 18 December 2023. The statement will be reviewed annually. It was last reviewed on 10 April 2025.

This website was last tested on Friday 6 June 2025 by our website provider, VerseOne.

The automated tests were completed using a range of tools including Axe dev tools, Silktide and lighthouse. This was followed by a manual accessibility review of a representative sample of pages and content types and was conducted using assistive technology in accordance with the most used.

We are currently implementing changes based on this test and will update this page with new information about the improvements we make.
