Document sharing available for our adult service users

From Wednesday 30 July 2025 the document sharing tool within Patients Know Best (PKB) will be available for our adult service users (18 years and above).

Our Children and Young People's Mental Health Services (CYPMHS) have been sharing these documents with their service users since July 2024 and it was the first of its kind across the NHS to provide children and young adults with a personal held record portal.

The following types of documents will be available to be shared from 30 July:

  • CAF Document
  • Clinic Letter
  • Consent to share information
  • Consent to treatment
  • Discharge summaries
  • Genogram
  • Appointment, Clinical, Waiting List and Other Letters
  • Medication Information Including:
  • Prescription Request
  • Reports/Assessments

These are documents that our services are already sharing with our service users in paper format, but by enabling to share these through PKB, we are able to ensure that our service users have access to the right information at the right time and can choose to share with family members, carers and other healthcare professionals involved in their care.

Please note that any service user with an open referral to the forensic or specialist services will not be included in this roll out, a filter has been applied to exclude these patients at the request of the services.

What is PKB?

PKB is a digital platform that gives service users secure access to their health record via an online portal. It can be used to store their medical and care information securely in one place.

Once service users have registered for PKB, they will be able to see their appointment information and the above documentation.

In the future, as we go live with more functionality, service users will be able to see information such as crisis plans and respond to assessment questionnaires. Service users will also have the ability, if they wish, to share their PKB portal with family, carers and other professionals.

Benefits of PKB for service users and NLFT

By using PKB to communicate appointments and select documents digitally and directly to the patient, we aim to give our service users better choice and control of their healthcare, allowing them to see their appointment and information on their phone or any online device through the PKB portal or the NHS App.

PKB will also help us reduce the number of people who don’t attend their appointments which ultimately has an impact on our waiting list.
