Double success: our children and young people’s service shortlisted for two HSJ Patient Safety Awards 2025

We are proud to announce that our Children and Young People’s Service has been shortlisted in two categories at the HSJ Patient Safety Awards 2025, recognising our commitment to safer, more inclusive and co-produced care.

  • Improving health outcomes for minority ethnic communities – for our work improving equitable access to mental health services for children and young people
  • Patient involvement in safety award – for our initiative empowering young voices to help design and shape safer services

It is well documented that people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities are among those most at risk of experiencing health inequalities — affecting life expectancy, the conditions they may experience, and the care available to them. This award category recognises organisations that have taken a more systematic approach to tackling complex racial disparities to ensure the safety of Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities, and address unwarranted variation in care. Judges look for evidence-based, data-driven interventions that reduce inequalities and can be scaled up.

Similarly, involving patients and service users in planning, decisions and outcomes is essential to designing safe, effective services — and is now a requirement across the NHS. The Patient involvement in safety award celebrates initiatives that can demonstrate genuine co-design, co-production and delivery with patients, service users and families, where safety and outcomes have measurably improved.

At the heart of both of our shortlisted projects is genuine co-production. We are committed to working with young people, families and communities to improve experiences, create better treatment pathways, reduce harm and make our services safer and more inclusive.

A huge well done to everyone involved. Your work is transforming lives and setting the standard for patient safety and inclusion across the NHS.

The winners will be announced on 15 September 2025 at the HSJ Patient Safety Awards ceremony at Manchester Central, as part of the HSJ Patient Safety Congress.
