Renowned health advisor Professor Don Berwick and IHI team praise the Trust's use of advanced tools for service and organisational improvements in year one milestone check-in
A two-day showcase of projects that our staff have undertaken in our first year of partnership with the Institute of Health Improvement (IHI) generated end-of-year feedback that praised the “energising collective wisdom” of NLFT colleagues, and prompted renowned health policy leader Prof Don Berwick to praise the Trust’s work, particularly how we ensure frontline staff and service users are empowered to lead change.
Widely respected worldwide for decades of leadership in improving health and care, Professor Berwick praised the Trust for its use of systems thinking and driver diagrams, which foster more cohesive healthcare delivery. He also commended the North London Way, a staff led approach that integrates patient and community voices into service design, as part of his feedback to Board members during the two-day review.
While Prof Berwick dialed in from the USA due to commitments overseas, a team of IHI improvement leaders and advisors visited the Trust in person, where they met with staff from board to ward.
IHI’s vice president Pedro Delgado and team commended the energy with which staff had embraced the tools and techniques that the IHI partnership brings to NLFT, which they had used to build strong momentum and decisive change for improvement in wards and services across north London.
