On Tuesday 26 August 2025, the Islington Sustainability Fair took place at Islington Assembly Hall. This vibrant summer event brought together residents, businesses, charities, and community organisations to celebrate local sustainability and promote wellbeing across the borough.
The fair was attended by local MPs including Jeremy Corbyn, Islington Councillor Rowena Champion (Executive member for environment, air quality and transport), and other local councillors. Olga Cecilia Farach, Deputy Lead Governor and Public Governor for Islington at NLFT, attended the event on behalf of the Trust. The event's aim was to share commitments to building stronger, healthier communities through environmental action.
Speaking at the event, Olga highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in promoting holistic wellbeing. She noted that other boroughs within NLFT, including Barnet, Enfield, Haringey, and Camden, are adopting similar approaches in their efforts to tackle climate change.
The fair featured a wide range of interactive stalls and workshops offering practical advice and hands-on support. Attendees accessed free energy consultations, electronics repairs, toy mending, and bike checks courtesy of Dr. Bike. Workshops included upcycling, clothes repair, composting tips, and guidance on reselling pre-loved items.
Visitors also had the opportunity to take part in creative activities such as the Botanical Fabric Paint Workshop, where they learned to make eco-friendly textiles. Free training sessions on appliance repair empowered participants with new skills to support the local economy — and even explore the potential of launching their own enterprises.
With food, crafts, prizes, and gardening activities on offer, the fair was a lively and inclusive celebration of sustainability. It was a powerful reminder that environmental action is deeply connected to our social, economic, and cultural wellbeing and it plays a vital role in supporting mental health across our communities.
