Key Changes held a Music Events Skills Bootcamp on Wednesday 9 April at the Bernie Grant Arts Centre, London, attracting 60 people. The Music Events Skills Bootcamp is a work experience programme provided by Key Changes Positive Mental Health Through Music.
The event celebrated the Bootcamp team's achievements, with 22 artists performing together in an Open Mic, showcasing musical talent from the local community.
One Bootcamp participant shared his experience and said; “It has shown me I can do something that can give me a good feeling about myself with all the trials and tribulations I was facing.”
Key Changes received funding support from North London Forensic Collaborative (NLFC) to deliver an ‘Access to Employment’ project consisting of three 16-week programmes of paid work experience placements in a London music studio, with 9 people accessing secure care services, participating in the first Bootcamp programme.
The Bootcamp Programme includes tailored, intensive training and real-life work roles, learning the practical and logistical skills required in the successful planning, promotion and delivery of a music event, and learning team working skills to support peers. Participants also join a weekly Zoom meeting with industry leading music experts to discuss music production marketing, publicity and gain tips.
An NLFC Community Connector joined the event and was impressed by the abundance of performers, highlighting their talent, creativity and impressive performance.
At the end of the programme participant gain a Certificate of Achievement and 1-1 support, to develop a tailored CV and progression plan, to identify next steps towards realistic and achievable training and employment goals.
Peter Leigh, CEO, Key Changes Positive Mental Health Through Music said; “Bootcamp participants stepped up to the challenge of learning new skills and working together as a team, impressing us with their enthusiasm and commitment to produce a music event for the local community.”
As a result of this project, two participants will be joining the Key Changes team as sessional workers. In addition, five participants will become part of the music programme, and on completion will have an opportunity to apply for volunteer positions within Key Changes.
