The proposed merger by acquisition between North London NHS Foundation Trust and Tavistock & Portman NHS Foundation Trust has now reached its final stage and is awaiting formal approval from the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care.
Approval is expected by Wednesday 1 April 2026.
The merger will bring NLFT and Tavistock & Portman together to create a more coordinated, stable and innovative mental health service for North Central London.
For service users and staff, this will support:
-
A more joined‑up mental health pathway for children and young people aged 0–25
-
Increased financial and operational stability
-
A stronger education and training offer
-
Opportunities to develop and grow centres of excellence, including forensic psychotherapy and commercial activities
For students studying at Tavistock & Portman, the merger will provide access to a wider range of placement opportunities across the combined organisation.
If you are a service user at either Trust, you do not need to do anything. Your care will continue as normal.
