Trust representation at the RCPsych International Congress

The 2025 Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych) International Congress took place between Monday 23 and Thursday 26 June in Newport, Wales. There was strong NLFT representation, including from Dr Philippa Greenfield and Dr Ed Beveridge.

Ed, who is RCPsych Presidential lead for physical health, chaired a session titled 'No mental health without oral health'. This was about the issue of poor oral and dental health in people with severe mental illness. The speakers recorded a podcast on the same topic at the conference which will be available to the public when it is released, so keep an eye out for it.

Philippa is the RCPsych Joint Presidential lead for women and mental health and also Trauma-Informed lead for the NHSE Culture of Care programme. The International Congress programme this year had a large focus on women's mental health. The presidential leads for women and mental health supported sessions on topics including:

  • Understanding the hidden epidemic: the impact of domestic abuse and the brain
  • What must change to improve women's mental health
  • Premenstrual dysphoric disorder: hiding in plain sight

Philippa also presented the work of the NCCMH/ NHSE Culture of Care programme to a packed audience of NHS leaders in a session on 'Being with rather than doing to: a tale of systems and people'.

Both Ed and Philippa were part of the Presidential Leads team at the annual 'Mindmasters' quiz – and came a respectable second in their heat but lost to more experienced players…

Leadership from across NLFT extended to sessions chaired by Dr Jo O'Reilly and Dr Stella Kingett, who also hold RCPsych roles.
