Like the rest of the NHS, North London NHS Foundation Trust uses data every day to provide care, manage services and plan for future demand. That data is often held on separate systems across the NHS that do not easily work together. This can delay access to vital information needed to support a patient's care and creates extra work for NHS staff.
The Trust's leadership recognises the importance of using connected health data to improve care. We also recognise the rights of individuals to confidentiality and the importance of being open about how data is used and protected.
The capability to join up health data and make these available where and when it is needed remains a key area of focus across the whole of the NHS. Bringing together the information needed to deliver care and reduce the administrative burden on NHS staff.
The NHS Federated Data Platform (FDP) is a national NHS programme commissioned by NHS England to help NHS organisations improve the way we use information already held within our systems to support patient care, operational planning and service improvement.
NHS England is responsible for the FDP contract and for ensuring health and care data is handled lawfully, securely and appropriately. This decision was not made by the Trust, we do not comment on Government procurement decisions, as our focus is on making sure patient data is used safely and securely to improve care.
More information about the FDP contract is available on the NHS England website: NHS Federated Data Platform contract explainer.
