We offer a range of short-term psychological interventions to adults presenting with common mental health problems, such as depression and anxiety. We offer adapted therapy options for people living with long-term physical health conditions (LTC) or persistent physical symptoms (previously referred to as MUS). For more information about what our service offers our Camden and Islington Talking Therapies website.
The majority of our interventions are theoretically grounded in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) - a time-limited, goal focussed talking therapy. We also have a small provision to offer other types of therapy where appropriate. All the therapies we offer are recommended by the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE).
We normally try to offer the briefest, most effective intervention with the shortest waiting time first. This can include guided self-help, employment support, medication support, books on prescription, psycho-educational groups, and online workshops (e.g. stress and relaxation, assertiveness, perfectionism, low self-esteem) cognitive behavioural therapy, counselling, behavioural couples therapy and more.
Depression, anxiety, or other common mental health problems. You might have a long-term condition, persistent physical symptoms, or insomnia.
You can refer yourself to Camden and Islington NHS Talking Therapies via our website or by calling: 020 3317 7252.
Alternatively, ask your GP, Nurse or Health Professional to refer you to our service.
You may also be referred by another agency that you have had contact with, for example in the voluntary sector.
GPs can email nlft.icopeislington.referrals@nhs.net or refer online via the professionals section of our website.
Once we receive a referral, we will normally offer an assessment appointment to discuss what you are looking for help with and consider if what we offer is likely to be helpful to you. If Talking Therapies is not the team best placed to support you, we will normally signpost you to other services in the borough or make recommendations for other types of support- we offer advice and signposting as part of the assessment appointment.
We offer appointments by video call, telephone, or in a range of locations including our team bases, community venues, and GP surgeries.
