The Recovery College co-produces recovery-focused courses (in person and online) for everyone 18+ in Camden and Islington. Our courses are lively, aspirational and interactive – and promote hope that recovery is possible. We aim to empower people in practical ways by teaching self-care tools to improve wellbeing.

Balkan Recovery College Collaboration: From Co-Production to Connection
Camden and Islington Recovery College has supported the Balkan Recovery College Project, recognised as an example of good practice in co-production and peer-led learning, since January 2025. The initiative, supported by Erasmus+, brings together partners from Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Slovenia to develop the Recovery College model across the Balkan region.
“Stigma and shame are still strong here. Recovery Colleges could help families talk about mental health in ways they never have before.” — Ana Djurdjevic
“In the UK, we use booklets, performances, and events to show recovery is possible. Seeing someone else succeed helps people believe they can too.” — Suhair
Professor Fiona Nolan and Ksenija Kadic co-facilitated the Advisory Group and co-produced a framework to share knowledge and expertise with other members, including service users, academics, professionals, third-sector representatives, and C&I Recovery College students. Between May and September, the group met regularly to exchange learning and shape the project’s development. A summary of this phase is available here.
Camden and Islington Recovery College has contributed by offering consultation, attending meetings, providing access to ImROC learning sets and online courses, and signposting to documentation and research.
Following the completion of the desk research and service mapping phase, the Balkan delegates will visit London in the first week of December 2025 to observe practice and meet our staff, tutors, and students. During their visit, they will also spend time with our partnership organisations and other Recovery Colleges in London. See the visit programme for details.
The project is ongoing and will run from 2025 to 2027. Reports from each phase are available on request.
We invite you to join us for a special event on Friday, 5 December, and to be part of this continuing story.
For more information, please contact Ksenija Kadic at k.kadic@nhs.net. See the flyer and visit programme for further details.
We work using the model of co-production, where professionals from our Trust and community work together with peer tutors, who have lived and professional experience, to co-produce recovery-focused courses. Co-production continues with our students who have their own knowledge, skills and experience to share in courses.
No referral is needed. Everyone aged 18+ who lives or works in Camden or Islington can access our free courses.
NLFT staff can enrol on all courses, but please be aware that all our in-person courses take place in Camden and Islington.
Service users in Camden and Islington are welcome, as are friends, family, other professionals and members of the public. We have also provided our expertise outside London, customers include Changing Lives (Newcastle-upon-Tyne) and Berlin Recovery College, and are now involved in a project to create a Recovery College in the Balkans.
Parent and Carer Support
We welcome adult parents and carers to our courses. However, due to venue and safety constraints, we are currently unable to accommodate infants or children under 18 in our sessions. Please note that the NLFT Perinatal Team provides a range of groups focused on staying well and general wellbeing for those who meet their service criteria. For parents and carers seeking additional support, we offer one-to-one learning guidance conversations (please ask for this on enrolment) and can signpost to appropriate services.
Online enrolment is the easiest way to enrol. If you are unable to enrol online, please contact us to make an appointment to enrol in-person. Students can also enrol at our Open Days and other events.
