CAMHS stands for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service. We provide help and treatment for children and young people (0-18 years) with emotional health and wellbeing needs in Camden. We have a team located in the North of the borough (North Camden Community CAMHS at the Tavistock Clinic) and a team located in the South of the borough (South Camden Community CAMHS in Ampthill Square). If you have a preferred location to be seen, please let us know.
We offer a variety of interventions which we work with young people and families to agree. We offer short, medium and long term treatments with Psychologists, Family therapists, Child and adolescent psychotherapists, CBT Therapists, Child Psychiatrists and Mental Health Nurses.

We accept self-referrals. Please contact our Clinical Intake Team if you need support completing a self-referral form.
We also accept referrals from GPs and other professionals such as health visitors and school nurses.
We offer all families/young people a CAMHS assessment appointment to understand what you might want help with and if we are the best service to support you. We listen to your main concerns and what you and your family’s wishes are as well as hearing other information that has been shared (e.g. from the GP or school).
We know that you may be resilient and have a lot of strengths in coping with challenges around emotional wellbeing. We are keen to understand what might work and help at the same time as understanding any areas that may need additional support. We will tell you more about the help we offer and recommend, ask what help you would like and decide on a support plan; this is called a care plan. We will share this care plan with your GP.
We work other people from the NHS, local authorities and the voluntary sector . Lots of these people are very experienced in supporting children and young people’s emotional wellbeing. We always try to include these people – from your referral, during assessment and therapy until the end of your time with us.
We use the i -THRIVE framework, which is an integrated, person-centred and needs-led approach. This means that children, young people and families work with professionals to define mental health needs.
If we agree that a treatment in our service would be helpful, there will be a wait between your assessment appointment and treatment sessions. You will be given the name of a care-coordinator during this time who you can contact if you are struggling or need to update us about changes in your wellbeing.
