North London NHS Foundation Trust colleagues have received national recognition for their outstanding contribution to psychiatry and mental health care at the Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych) Awards. The awards celebrate excellence across the profession, recognising individuals and teams whose expertise, leadership and commitment are helping to improve care and inspire others.
Psychiatric Team of the Year: Intellectual Disability
Our Haringey Learning Disability Partnership (HLDP) won the Psychiatric Team of the Year: Intellectual Disability award.
HLDP provides services for adults with learning disabilities in Haringey and is an integrated service between NLFT, Whittington Health NHS Trust, and Haringey social services.
Despite significant system pressures, the team has developed innovative pathways in clinical genomics, dementia and autism, while maintaining a strong culture of education, training and co-production.
The judges said,"They appear to be a caring MDT who use evidence-based approaches, quality improvement techniques and effective use of resources to deliver high quality healthcare."
Dr Seungyoun (Carolyn) MoonSAS Doctor of the Year
Dr Seungyoun (Carolyn) Moon was named Specialty and Associate Specialist (SAS) Doctor of the Year.
This award recognises those who have demonstrated advanced clinical skills as well as excelling in service development, teaching, research and leadership.
Carolyn has worked across different services, including acute inpatient care on Daisy Ward at St Ann's Hospital, the Haringey Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team, early intervention in psychosis services at Lucas House and forensic psychiatry at HM Prison Wormwood Scrubs.
One of the judges said, "I was struck by the sheer breadth of Dr Moon's leadership and achievements across clinical services, research and education; across the fields of psychiatry and art; and across continents.
Dr Moon epitomises the very best of a portfolio career, an outstanding clinician, educator, researcher, leader, public speaker and internationally acclaimed contemporary artist. Her work champions mental health, challenges stigma and advances human rights across the UK, Europe and South Korea. She is a truly remarkable human being and an extraordinary doctor."
President's Prize
Dr Kieran Ferrier received the President's Prize. He currently works as clinical teaching fellow and is in his third and final year of core psychiatry training.
The President's Prize is awarded after each sitting of the MRCPsych Clinical Assessment of Skills and Competencies (CASC) examination, the final clinical assessment required for Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. It recognises the candidate who achieves the highest overall performance across the membership examinations.
President's Medal
Dr Philippa Greenfield was awarded a President's Medal in recognition of her contribution to mental health policy, education and patient care.
Philippa is a Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist and named professional for safeguarding adults. Her national work has focused on the impact of trauma and inequality, particularly gender-based violence, on mental health.
She serves as RCPsych Joint Presidential Lead for Women and Mental Health and Trauma-Informed Lead to the NHS England/NCCMH Culture of Care Programme. Through these roles, she has helped shape national strategy, policy and guidance on women's mental health, trauma-informed practice and gender-based violence. She also co-led the development of the College's first Women's Mental Health Strategy and position statement on Menopause and Mental Health.
Congratulations to all those recognised on these fantastic achievements which highlight the breadth of talent, expertise and leadership across NLFT. From delivering outstanding care and developing innovative services to influencing national policy and advancing mental health, our colleagues continue to make a positive difference for patients, service users and communities.
